Mascoprint’s expertise and experience has helped a manufacturer of high quality boating hardware significantly increase the profit in a new product.

Havant-based Lewmar Ltd is a leading sailboat and powerboat hardware supplier for the leisure marine industry, offering a range of high quality products.

Lewmar turned to Mascoprint in search of a more cost-effective solution to the outsourcing of print for a new range of race winches they had produced. To give the products strong consumer appeal they needed stylish branding on the aluminium machined castings.

Initially this part of the production process was sub-contracted, and although the end product was impressive and appealing, the cost of the printing was making the winches uncompetitive in the marketplace.

Mascoprint’s solution was to bring the printing in-house at Lewmar. Ian Mason visited the company to advise on all aspects of the job, from specifying the right printing machines to the types of inks and screens, most suitable for the application.

Lewmar’s Barry Moth, takes up the story: “Being as choosy as I am there were a number of meetings to enable me to get a full understanding of the machines and the process. We also checked the costs and found the solution very competitive.

“All the print screens were sorted for us on flat and cylindrical applications and are very accurate/ Our machine arrived on time and since that point Ian has been great, training my staff and reacting fantastically when we had an issue with varying temperatures, and therefore delayed curing times.”

“Mascoprint has, in my opinion, turned this fairly small project into a turnkey solution. I wish the outcome was like this on all of our projects.”

Lewmar use a Mascoprint TS450S semi-auto cylindrical screen printer and a manually-operated Compact Print Unit.
